Flash Prose: Magic Numbers

A situated scene: People throw numbers out there like numbers are dice. You could be ungenerous about that and say it's magical thinking. But magical thinking has its own virtues if it's a practice. Magicians and scientists both share laboratory. Magic is pre-modern and so is religion and both had solutions via practice in their day. Christianity picked on magic. The rest is situated history. Dawkins, claims magical realism for his science but more in the Carl Sagan way where your mouth is open in a meme. The cachet of literature for Dawkins oooooh such Oxbridge emperor stuff. Throwing numbers like dice is just casting a spell. Some numbers are kinda random others though are referenced. The numbers mean things beyond an internally consistent symbol for quantity and measurement. The references go back to of numerology and whatever that Platonic looking Chaldean numbers Google ad is. And all that the one, like a unitary Pythagorean monad, the monad of whatever-(ything)-it-is, and the window closes. My apartment is the camera. I got a good image of the view. I don't know why people don't throw out numbers to each other in bars more often and not just staff. Referential number throwing gets my interest. It's a chance for a story when I ask them what they mean. Especially without involving the internet content about it. The referential number is a gambit for a personal truth because cachet of math. It's so 3487
