Chapter minus 2

Juan Davila - The Moral Meaning of Wilderness

AlterChilean artist Juan Davila - transgressive, provocative, notorious and wild.

I know the paintings of a transvestite Simon Bolivar on a horse flipping the bird. In this video the hanged man emerges - a concatenation of imagery with a previous posting on this blog that resonated with me and seeing it in the clip in the link below hit home.

The moral meaning of wilderness - the wanderings of a Jodorowski or Ruiz film, death nightmares wondrous and schizophrenic journeys - hallucination by exile. The name of the exhibition ssuggests a return to a moral compass and language. I am unsure if this is a return but it is an exposition, a visual significance, meaning and gravitas - sounds like Davila's exiled nomad Zarathustra came down from the mountain to give moral meaning of a wild post-colonial boy...is he still out there as he has entered the MUMA gallery?

Some fellow artists ask if he has sold out - it looks like his diverse findings from his wilderness is definitely selling out, like hot pancakes with syrup on a rainy Melbourne day.

I imagine Simon Bolivar saying "Colonista, fuck you and the horse you rode in on."
