Chthonic-Telluric - Covid19 extempore by Ariel Riveros
A cultural additional to the chthonic writings of Europe (I am thinking of Freud onwards) and the gothic delirium of Lovecraft to Cthulhu and why not echolaliaise to cathexis and catharsis?
A foundational cultural distinction I want to make (and Lovecraft distantly borrowed vis Mishkatonic U) is in presenting the Telluric. Latin terminology and a framing used in Latin American earth cults of the Andes. One thing to note is the immediate symmetrical slotting it makes to the regional earth phenomenon such as earthquakes, distinct environmental air patterns, and closer to the pole, diverse stellar kinematics.
This has lent to utopianism of latinamericanism, cybernetics, afrolatin futurism, and as well 19th century German political diaspora of pure Noah dimensions invested in this. That is a continual laughing point in Latin America southern cone cultures jibes at such German settlers.
I develop this utopianism via the highly environmental and meteorological diversity to a mid 20th century speculative infusion of Latin American literature of Borges, Rulfo and Cortazar who had let Kafka into their salons. This generates to heterotopia somewhat sliding up to Foucault's formulation of that while maintaining a distinct archivalist nominalism seen in Magical Realism.
This assemblage holds the manifold patterns of settler intermingle and indigeneity. As well as highly dramatic militant colonial, indigenous, piracy and merchant's slaughter. The figure of the heart is pretty, and well bloodied.
Joseph Campbell distinguished between ethereal, Telluric and chthonic. Am phobic of iconic style narrative theories and Jungianism. The anarchetype appeals to me. Maybe the speculative, empyric, heterotopian telluric art-science cultural traversals end up in a lump net sum of less asshole cryptofashy fishe. Or maybe get Despacito up ya.
